On July 20th, Team SwimSpray competed in the New Jersey State Triathlon and the Trans Tahoe Relay in California. This is the first time that we have competed in two events in one weekend. Plus, the team tackled two different sports on opposite sides of the country, with athletes ranging from age 10 to 46. For results, we took home a first place trophy from Tahoe, and we had multiple podium finishes and three top-20 overall finishes in the New Jersey Triathlon. Not bad for a small startup company, right?
Once you make the swimming connection, everything else makes sense. SwimSpray is an all-swimmer company, launching a product invented by a swimmer, for swimmers. These swimming connections also supplied the 20+ athletes who competed for Team SwimSpray – everyone knew one another because of a shared swimming background.
Trans Tahoe Relay – Team SwimSpray’s Win
Team SwimSpray’s masters swimmers won their category in the Trans Tahoe Relay at Lake Tahoe, Nevada/California. The team, comprised of Andrew Chadeayne (SwimSpray’s inventor), Easton Chen, Julia Peppiatt, Ming Ong, Amara Rivera, and Peter Wong (SwimSpray’s Chief Operating Officer) – finished first in the Mixed 114+ division and 33rd overall with a time of 4:13:54.
About 190 six-person teams competed in the 37th Annual Trans Tahoe Relay. Leadoff swimmers started the relay in chilly 55 degree air and 64 degree water and were followed by an armada of boats throughout the 10 mile trek across Lake Tahoe.
“The most nerve wracking part of the whole race was swimming about a mile out into the lake and trying to find the right boat,” said Team SwimSpray’s leadoff leg, Peter Wong. “I was so relieved when I spotted the SwimSpray banner.”
Many other members of Team SwimSpray competed on other boats during the competition, including “Team Anxiety,” “Cold Turkey,” and “Calmer Than You Are.”
New Jersey Triathlon – Team SwimSpray on the Podium
While the Tahoe swimmers were immersed in 64 degree alpine lake water, SwimSpray’s triathletes grappled with the 90 degree (yes, 90 degrees!) water at the New Jersey State Triathlon in West Windsor, New Jersey.
According to East Coast Captain, Dee Sullivan, the team-oriented attitude exemplified by SwimSpray set them apart: “We acted as each other’s logistical support and equipment managers the morning of the race. Each person’s most vital role was cheerleader.”
Team SwimSpray took 17th overall in the team competition and earned three Top 20 spots in the men’s overall competition. Notable finishers included Erine O’Connor, who placed second in the women’s 20-24 competition; and Sean Doyle, Andy Shyong, and Warren Cheng who finished in the Top 20 Male competitors overall. Warren Cheng was also second in the men’s 30-34 division.
Racing to the After-Party
When we surveyed Team SwimSpray members about their favorite part of the competition, no one had much to say about the actual racing. Rather, the participants pointed to the camaraderie and overall “fun” experience. According to Sean Doyle of Pleasantville, New York, “I’m always trying to get my best time, but racing with SwimSpray is really all about the people. We’re really racing to get to the after party.”
The Tahoe competitors offered similar reflections about their event. According to SwimSpray’s President, Andrew Chadeayne, “We were really excited to get first place in the race. That was a shocker. But, what really amazed me was having 40 or 50 swimming friends show up at our after party. It felt like a swim team reunion. Swimmers are the best.”
SwimSpray was invented by Dr. Andrew Chadeayne, a former Princeton University swimmer and chemistry Ph.D. from Cornell University. Tired of smelling like chlorine after his swimming workouts, Andrew set out remove chlorine from hair and skin ( SwimSpray works where so many other chlorine removal products (e.g., swimmers’ shampoos) have failed previously because SwimSpray’s all-natural vitamin C based formula breaks this bond, neutralizing the chlorine, and allowing it to be washed away with your favorite soap or shampoo.
