Teddy Cross Commits to Loyola (MD) as Part of the Class of 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

After finishing in the top eight of both his events the past two years at the VHSL Class 5 State Championship, Teddy Cross has announced his college commitment for next, electing to join Loyola University (MD) in the fall of 2022. Cross is currently swimming for Albemarle High School as well as for Cavalier Aquatics.

I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Loyola University Maryland. Thank you to my family, friends, and all of my coaches for helping me along the way. Go Hounds!!
At the 2021 Virginia High School Class 5A Swimming and Diving State Championships, Cross grabbed a silver medal in the 100 back, narrowly missing the gold. He finished with a lifetime best time of 50.78, just .14 behind William Kohn of Thomas Jefferson Science and Technology. He also added a 4th place finish in the 200 IM, finishing with another best time of 1:55.99. At the same meet in 2020 he took 5th in the 100 free (48.18) and 8th in the 100 back (53.96).
Over the summer, Cross was a multiple-event finalist while swimming at the YMCA Long Course Festival. His highest finish came in the 200 back, where he took third in 2:08.15. He was slightly faster in the race during prelims, touching in 2:07.73. He also added an A-finals appearance in the 50 free, where his time of 24.29 earned him 5th.

Top SCY Times

  • 50 free – 20.85
  • 100 free – 46.25
  • 200 free – 1:44.93
  • 100 back – 50.33
  • 200 back – 1:49.41
  • 100 fly – 50.49
  • 200 IM – 1:55.08

Loyola’s season looked a bit different during the 2020-21 school year, with meets only getting started in the middle of February and ending with the Patriot League Challenge in April. During the teams last traditional season, the 2019-20 school year, the team ended it’s season by taking 3rd at the Patriot League Championships and 9th at the ECAC Championships.

Cross will be a big addition to the team, with times that would already have him challenging for the team’s relay spots. Last season, he would have been just .05 off of making the team’s 200 free relay and .2 off the 400 free relay. His time in the 200 back would have also made him the program’s third-fastest performer in the event.

The team’s sprint freestyle group is currently led by sophomore Caleb Kelly, who will have two years of overlap with Cross when he arrives on campus next fall. The Greyhounds also have a pair of standout freshmen in the backstroke events, with Patrick Hayburn and Henry Mueller already leading the team this season in the backstroke events.
