Tennessee Associate Head Coach Lance Asti Stepping Down

University of Tennessee associate head coach Lance Asti will step down from his coaching role to focus on outside professional interests.

“It’s official, I have stepped down from my coaching position at UT to focus on family and my new business,” Asti wrote on Instagram. “I am so incredibly grateful for the many opportunities I’ve been given over my career.”

Asti will step down effective April 30. Asti was a former Tennessee swimmer who had coached for the Volunteers since the 2012-2013 season.

“For four years as a swimmer, two decades as a coach and nine years as a coach at Tennessee, Lance personified the highest ideals of Tennessee Men’s Swimming and Diving,” said head coach Matt Kredich in the Tennessee press release. “He has changed our team for the better in countless ways and helped us win a lot of races, meets and championships. We are excited for him as he takes his next steps in another career. We are thrilled that he’ll keep his family in Knoxville and still be around the team he loves.

“As a team, we’ll continue to move forward relentlessly in pursuit of excellence in the pool and in the classroom. We will be thoughtful in looking for a coach who can help us take our best next steps. I have no doubt we’ll have a lot of interest from a number of outstanding coaches who want to be part of a group that aims to be the best high-performance staff in the country.”

Asti mostly coached the sprint groups at Tennessee. Top Volunteer sprinters included SEC champ Erika Brown and 18-second sprinter Kyle DeCoursey.

Best wishes to Lance and his family as he (seemingly) transitions to life outside of swimming, but I know I speak for MANY, when I say: FINALLY!!! Josh Huger, FINALLY gets his chance to shine and take the Vols to the tippy top of ole Rocky Top!

Why all the downvotes on this? Huger is a fantastic recruiter a talented coach. Is there something I’m missing?

Lance was a great coach for the Vols but did not coach Erika as he has not worked with the women for years

Actually, lance coached Erika her freshman year and into her sophomore year and did a great job transitioning her into college

At the end of the day, does it really matter? In my 46 years on this earth, I have never seen a more petty group of complainers than you see in the sport of swimming. We give old blue hair bridge playing ladies a run for the money.

You must not have ever hung out around AAU basketball parents, players, and coaches.
