KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee diving duo Kara Holt and Nick McCann were selected as recipients of NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, the organization recently announced.
A two-time CSC Academic All-American, Holt earned her bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience with a perfect 4.00 GPA. She received CSCAA Scholar All-America recognition three times and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll all four years. She qualified for the NCAA Zone B Championships all four years of her Tennessee career. In addition to her success in the classroom and the pool, Holt was a member of the 2022 SEC Community Service Team and totaled 102.5 hours of community service throughout her time on Rocky Top. She was a member of the 2022 VOLeaders Class.
McCann, a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection, was forced to medically retire from diving during his junior season, but that didn’t stop him from staying heavily involved with the program. As he earned his degree in Biological Sciences this year, McCann served as a student manager under the guidance of diving coach Dave Parrington.
The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage graduate education by rewarding the Association’s most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports. The one-time non-renewable scholarships of $10,000 are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sport season (fall, winter and spring). Each sports season there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.
In maintaining the highest broad-based standards in the selection process, the program aims to reward those individuals whose dedication and effort are reflective of those characteristics necessary to succeed and thrive through graduate study.
