Texas Holds On To Top Spot in January 22nd, 2015 CSCAA Poll

In their first dual meet rankings of 2015, the Texas Longhorn men remain in the #1 position, unifying themselves with SwimSwam’s separate power rankings.

The Longhorn men did what they needed to hold that spot after beating #6 Auburn by 21 points and #2 Georgia by 16 points in back-to-back dual meets over three days.

They have one more big test, as Arizona (and SMU) will come to Austin for a two-day dual on January 30th and 31st.

After that top spot, the CSCAA’s rankings differ wildly from SwimSwam’s. Georgia has jumped up a spot to #2, Cal falls to #3, and Louisville rises to #4 since the CSCAA’s last publication. The biggest slide came from Florida, who fell from #4 to #7, despite having only one meet since the last CSCAA poll (a 173-126 trouncing of Florida State on the road).

The Gators have a big matchup against Auburn on Saturday that should give them a chance to preview the upcoming SEC Championships.

Below is the rankings and explanation, courtesy of the CSCAA.

CSCAA NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Team Rankings Supported by TYR

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division I Team Rankings are compiled by CSCAA-member coaches and one media member.  The rankings will be released on a weekly basis throughout the 2014-15 season, alternating weeks between a men’s and women’s team ranking.

The CSCAA DI Poll Committee will produce in-season rankings of the 25 best performing NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving teams in rank order at the time of each poll.  The poll is not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championship, but rather which teams would win head-to-head against other teams in the country. Ranking are based on performances that have taken place since the previous poll and include invites as well as dual meets.

Since Tenn has combined programs, both seem like they have slid down some?!? Same with Michigan. A coincidence? Don’t think so! Marsh at Auburn is the only one to run a combined truly successful. All the men’s teams that have won since AU are separate: michigan, Texas and Cal

what place were the women before they combined? 3rd at ncaa’s….what place were they last year?
the best the men did was the first year they combined i think and then got worse …they do have some studs this year….we will see.
but other than Marsh and AZ once a while ago, combined programs don’t do as well…considering there aren’t that many separate programs any more.

I’m not sure that Georgia is the same team they were a “couple of years ago”? With the rocking freshman class the vols don’t stand a chance, but we will see. SECs will tell it all.

agree, tennessee will give them a good fight but either way the meet goes, let’s see what happens at SEC’s and NCAA’s when it counts. the last couple years, tenn men have been good in dual meets but have fallen on their face at the end of the year. depends on your priorities i guess.

Wow who would have ever thought Georgia would be #2 in this poll a few years ago? Their men’s program has come a long way in a short time

If Texas has one of the best butterfly groups of all-time (or least in recent history), then Georgia certainly has one of the best IM groups of all-time.

Did this poll take the Austin Pro Series meet into account?
