Texas Nominates Claire Adams, Jordan Windle as Big 12 Athlete of the Year

University of Texas swimmer Claire Adams and diver Jordan Windle are the school’s nominees for the 2020 Big 12 Conference Athlete of the Year award.

The honor, which reaches across all of the Big 12 sponsored sports, features one male and one female nominee from each of the conference’s 10 member institutions. Of the 5 schools in the Big 12 that sponsor swimming & diving programs, Texas is the only one that nominated aquatic athletes for the honor.

Fan voting, which will determine the winner of the award, will be open from May 22-26.

Adams, a senior member of the Texas women’s swimming & diving team, was a unanimous selection for the 2020 Big 12 Swimmer of the Year award, earning her third-straight honor. She was also named the Big 12 Swimmer of the Meet after winning all 7 races she swam en route to a dominating Texas team title.

She finished the season with the 4th-best time in the country in the 100 back this season (50.51). She finished her career as a 23-time Big 12 Champion and 25-time All-America award winner (first team and honorable mention combined) in spite of her senior season NCAA Championship meet being cancelled.

Windle, a diver with the Texas men’s program, was named the Big 12 Diver of the Year and Big 12 Championship Diver of the Year as a junior this season. That marked his 3rd-straight Big 12 Diver of the Year award.

His 3-meter performance at the Big 12 Championships, where he scored 553.15 points, was an NCAA Record.

At what would become a season-ending Zone D Championships, Windle swept the 1-meter, 3-meter, and platform diving events
