The 2024 Texas Age Group Championships brought together the state’s fastest age group swimmers for a weekend of intense racing following the conclusion of the regional championship competitions a few weeks prior. Showcasing the best of Texas’s 14 and under competitors, the meet saw a number of top performances across all age group divisions with several swimmers climbing the national rankings.
Turning in one of the most impressive showings over the course of the weekend was 10-year-old Josie Sun from Lakeside Aquatic Club. Sun won all 10 of her races and posted personal best times in her seven individual events.
Her biggest time drops came in the 500 free (5:35.84) and the 50 fly (29.15). Sun’s performance in the 500 marks the fifth-fastest time this season in the 10 and under age group and the 99th-fastest time ever, while her 50 fly resulted in the ninth-fastest time this season.
Sun also posted top times in the 100 breast (1:12.09) and the 100 back (1:05.21), which landed her fourth and eighth, respectively, in the 10 and under age group rankings for this season. Sun moved up to 54th on all-time age group rankings in the 100 breast.
Drue Rogers, a 12-year-old from Lakeside, moved up the national rankings in the 200 fly, posting the fourth-fastest time in the 11-12 age group this season and securing the victory in a time of 2:10.46.

Rogers also raced on both medley relays, where she was joined by Adelyne Lam, Wang and Sun. Their team won the 200 medley in a time of 1:54.16 and the 400 medley in a time of 4:08.96.

Nilsson swept the breaststroke events, winning the 50 (28.51), 100 (1:02.04) and 200 (2:17.01). The 12-year-old catapulted to the top of the national rankings for the 11-12 age group so far this season; he now sits at second place in the 50 and third place in both the 100 and 200 for the top-times this season.
Metroplex Aquatics’ Evan Pan-Wang also posted multiple event sweeps, winning both distances of the backstroke events and sweeping the sprint and middle-distance freestyle events.

It’s age group swimming. It has a lot to do with birthdays and relays, and who you’re blessed with to walk in through your doors. They’ll be back in the thick of it sooner than later. Nice Coaches there who have good hearts, teaching the right things. And congrats to LAC on the team win.
The depth was crazy, too
