The Texas A&M men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will officially open their respective 2016-17 seasons with a 5 p.m. dual meet against the Incarnate Word Cardinals on Wednesday at the Ann Barshop Natatorium on the UIW campus.
Both Texas A&M squads are coming off top 25 national finishes in 2015-16 with the women’s team placing fourth at the 2016 NCAA Championships after previously winning its first-ever Southeastern Conference Championship, while the Aggie men battled to a 25th-place at the national meet.
The Texas A&M women’s team, led by head coach Steve Bultman, features 25 returning letterwinners, including 13 swimmers or divers that earned first-team or honorable mention All-America honors and five SEC Champions. The returnees are joined by an impressive group of newcomers that features eight freshmen and two transfers from four-year schools.
The Aggie men’s squad, guided by head coach Jay Holmes, has 21 returning lettermen, including a SEC Champion diver and three Aggies that earned 2016 All-America honors. Last year the Aggies posted a 7-1 record in dual meet action, which was their best record in more than a decade. Joining the Aggies in 2016-17 are six freshmen, as well as transfer from a four-year school.
