Texas Tasija Karosas DFS in the 100 Backstroke

Texas’ Tasija Karosas was noticeably absent from the 100 backstroke field this morning. The junior came in seeded with a 51.40, a time that would have put her in the middle of the consolation final.

Karosas was a scorer a year ago in the same race, finishing 10th overall. The fact that she was a declared false start instead of an ordinary scratch indicates that there is probably something acute (illness, injury) that the coaches hoped would resolve itself prior to the session.

We reached out to Texas’ Media Relations director but did not get clarification on why Karosas did not swim.

Karosas was also absent from Texas’ 200 Medley relay. The Longhorns qualified for the consolation final. They sorely missed Karosas’ presence on the relay. Her replacement on backstroke, split 25.25. Karosas was 24.42 at the Big 12 Championships last month.

If Karosas cannot recover by tomorrow it will likely cost Texas even more points. Karosas is seeded fourth in the 200 backstroke. The Longhorns are in 16th place after the third day, and risk finishing out of the top ten after a 7th place showing last year.
