Texas Women’s Swim & Dive Announce 2023 Signing Class

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Texas Women’s Swimming and Diving and head coach Carol Capitani announced the signing of seven student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to the class of 2023.

“The class of 2023 is one of our most exciting classes to date.  Arguably the best class in the country, these talented women specialize in nearly every stroke, distance and board,” Capitani said. “They will have an immediate and positive impact at the Conference, NCAA and international level, and will help continue to drive our culture of world-class swimming and academics at The University of Texas. Mitch [Dalton], Matt [Scoggin] and I can’t wait to get them to the Forty Acres.”

Berit Berglund | Carmel, Ind. | Carmel High School, Carmel Swim Club
Member of the 2022-23 U.S. National Junior Team (100 back) … the no. 1 ranked swimmer in Indiana and 21st overall … swims backstroke and freestyle … placed second in the 100 back (1:00.85) at the 2022 Speedo Junior National Championships … three-time IHSAA Girls State Champion in the 100 back (2020-22) and 2022 bronze medalist in the 100 free … gold medalist in the 100 back at the 2022 Speedo Sectionals – Indianapolis … finalist in 100 back at the 2022 Indiana Senior LCM Championship … a 2022 USA Swimming Scholastic All-America.

Angie Coe | Charleston, Ill. | Charleston High School, Champaign County YMCA
The No. 1 ranked swimmer in Illinois … swims freestyle and butterfly … a four-time finalist at the 2022 YMCA SC National Championships, placing second in the 200 IM (1:58.97), third in the 100 fly (53.66) and fifth in the 100 free (49.47) and 200 free (1:48.06) … two-time IHSA Girls State Championships bronze medalist (200 IM, 100 fly) … bronze medalist in the 500 free (4:49.67) at the 2019 YMCA Short Course National Championships.

Member of the 2022-23 National Team (400 free, 800 Free) … the No. 1 ranked swimmer in Texas and No. 10 overall … a freestyler … member of the 2021-22 U.S. National Junior Team … won gold in the 800 free (8:30.38) and bronze in the 400 free (4:06.84) at the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships … also placed fourth in the 1500 free (16:29.16) … two-time medalist at the 2022 Speedo Junior National Championships, winning gold in the 400 free and 800 free and bronze in the 200 free … a seven-time gold medalist and 10-time finalist at the 2022 Speedo Sectionals in Austin and College Station … a two-time gold medalist (400 free, 800 free) at the 2021 Speedo Summer Championships … a 2022 USA Swimming Scholastic All-America.

Member of the 2021-22 National Junior Team (100 fly) … the No. 2 ranked swimmer in Wisconsin and No. 17 overall … swims butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and individual medley … Wisconsin state record-holder in the 50y fly (23.26) and 200y fly (1:54.49) … two-time WIAA Girls Division 1 State Champion in the 100y fly and 200y IM … three-time 2022 Speedo Sectionals – Minneapolis gold medalist (100 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM) … a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-America (2020, 2022).

Mitch is awesome and is a value add for sure – but the program was improving before he arrived. Kudos to Carol and all the young women on the team!
