The Olympian Distance Challenge For Diabetes Research

The Olympian Distance Challenge is a 2 hour swim challenge in support of life saving diabetes research.
This event is a wonderful opportunity for Olympian Swim Club swimmers to give back to the community.  All swimmers will swim as far as they can in 2 hours. Last year, many of our athletes swam more than 10km in the allotted time, and the club raised nearly $24,000.
Fifty percent of the funds raised by the Olympian Swim Club will be donated directly to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation to support lifesaving diabetes research at the University of Alberta. The remaining fifty percent of the funds raised will be used to support youth fitness programs and competitive swimming at the Olympian Swim Club.
The Alberta Diabetes Foundation (ADF) is a not-for-profit charitable organization committed to finding a cure for diabetes through its connection to the Alberta Diabetes Institute (ADI) – a uniquely Canadian and world-class diabetes research facility.  Located at the University of Alberta, the ADI proudly houses internationally renowned diabetes researchers who collaborate with their colleagues worldwide.
The Olympian Swim Club (OSC) is a volunteer based not-for-profit organization that was founded in 1974. Since then OSC has grown to nearly 400 athletes and has become a leading club in Canadian swimming at all levels, consistently placing in the Top 3 provincially and nationally. Our recent achievements include: winning the Canadian Age Group Championships Women’s Team Title in both 2009 and 2012, winning the 2012 Western Canadian Championships Women’s Team Title, and this past February, defending the Women’s Team Title and winning the Overall Team Title at the 2013 Western Canadian Championships. In addition, the Olympian Swim Club is pushing for International success as 11 current and former athletes competed at the 2013 Canadian World Championship Trials in Victoria. One former member, now training at the Vancouver National Training Centre, was selected to the 2013 Canadian World Championship Team.
