The University of Hawai’i Receives Commitment From Weylin Foo

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Weylin Foo, a current high school senior from Kailua Kona, Hawaii, has committed to swim for Division I University of Hawai’i at Manoa under head coach Elliot Ptasnik. Foo will graduate from Kealakehe High School in spring 2020 and join the Rainbow Warrior’s class of 2024.

Foo currently swims trains with Terrapins Swim Club. At the 2019 Hawaiian Swimming Age Group Long Course State Championships, Foo was the champion in the 200 LCM butterfly (2:08.54), 200 IM (2:12.29) and 100 butterfly (57.74).  He also won the 200 SCY IM (1:56.92) and 100 butterfly (50.96) at the Hawaii Interscholastic League Championships.

“I’m super happy to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Hawaii at Manoa to further my athletic and academic career. I’d like to thank my family, all the coaches from Terrapins Swim Club, all the coaches from the Kona Dolphins Swim Club, and everyone else who has helped me along the way! I can’t wait to attend and swim for Hawaii!”

This year at the 2020 MPSF Swimming and Diving Championships, Foo would have had multiple finals performances with his current best times. He would have placed 5th in the 200 butterfly (1:48.91) making him Hawaii’s 3rd fastest 200 butterflier at the meet.

He also would have placed 14th in the 100 butterfly (49.35), 15th in the 200 IM (1:51.93) and 16th in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.73) which was won by future teammate Olli Kokko.

Best SCY Times:

  • 100 breaststroke – 55.79
  • 200 breaststroke – 2:02.73
  • 100 butterfly – 49.35
  • 200 butterfly – 1:48.91
  • 200 IM – 1:51.93
  • 400 IM – 4:10.17

This year at the MPSF Championships, the men and women Rainbow Warriors placed 1st as a team with the men winning by over 100 points. Nine team members achieved All-American status and 27 were given MPSF All-Academic honors.

Olli Kokko was named the MPSF Male Swimmer of the Year. He placed 1st in the 100 breaststroke, 2nd in the 200 breaststroke and was a member of the winning 200 and 400 medley relays. Both male and female team coaches were voted Coach of the Year for the 3rd consecutive year.

Foo will begin his swimming career at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa fall 2020.
