The Wolfpack’s Rhyan White and Lisa Nystrand Each Scratch An ‘A’ Final On Day 2 In Sacramento

2025 Pro Swim Series — Sacramento

Day 2 Finals Heat Sheet

NC State’s Rhyan White and Lisa Nystrand each qualified for two championship finals on the first full day of the Sacramento stop of the Pro Swim Series. However, each has decided only to race one this evening, as White scratched the 100 butterfly and Nystrand the 100 breaststroke.

White finished eighth this morning in the women’s 100 butterfly with a 1:02.45. She was 1:01.96 in the morning last month at the Westmont Pro Swim Series. She finished 13th at that meet and made the same choice there she did today, scratching the 100 butterfly in favor of the 50 backstroke.

White is the second-fastest qualifier for the women’s 50 backstroke championship final. Her 28.30 this morning puts her six-hundredths behind the top qualifier Leah Shackley, who just closed her freshman season for NC State’s college team. Wolfpack women make up the top three seeds in the 50 backstroke this evening, as Olympic medalist Katharine Berkoff sits third (28.61).

Nystrand was the highest-seeded swimmer to scratch out of finals this evening. She finished 5th in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:10.29 but has prioritized the 400 IM, where she’s the third-fastest qualifier for the ‘A’ final (4:48.83). Nystrand recently finished 15th in the 400 IM at the 2025 Women’s NCAA DI Championships.

As a result of White’s scratch, Jada Duncan (1:02.69) will swim out of lane 8 in the women’s 100 butterfly ‘A’ final. Meanwhile, Avery Collins (1:11.97) moves into the women’s 100 breaststroke ‘A’ final.

There are no ‘A’ final scratches on the men’s side of the meet. The highest-seeded scratch was Jack Dahlgren, who opted out of the 100 butterfly ‘B’ final after placing 9th this morning (54.81). He made two ‘A’ finals today, and will race the 200 freestyle and 50 backstroke tonight. His choice moves FORD’s Hayden Ghufran from the ‘C’ final into the ‘B’ final (56.34). The other men’s ‘B’ final scratch was #15 Liam Roedling opting out of the 50 backstroke ‘B’ final, which means Nicholas Imig graduates from the ‘C’ final.

As for women’s ‘B’ final scratches, #10 Genevieve George decided not to race the 400 IM and #13 Abigail Heizer is out of the 50 backstroke. The move means Heizer will have only one race this evening, the 100 butterfly ‘B’ final, instead of two in quick succession. George will still have a busy session as she focuses on the 50 backstroke and 100 butterfly ‘B’ finals.

Top 24 Scratch Report

This is a small meet, with some events not having enough entrants this morning to fill eight lanes in a ‘C’ final. There are some events where athletes who did not originally qualify for finals—as in, were outside the top 24—and had the chance for a second swim but decided against it. We have not listed them as “in” and instead only list the swimmers set for a finals appearance.
