Thomas Ceccon Rebreaks Italian 50 Fly Record in 22.79

2022 FINA WORLD AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

In the semifinals of the 50 fly, Thomas Ceccon blasted 22.79 to lower the Italian Record of 22.88 that he set in prelims. He is the first Italian to break 23 seconds, which he has now done twice on the first day of the 2022 World Champs.

Ceccon’s best time from before this meet was 23.22, which he swam in 2020 to get within .01 of the old Italian Record. With his swim in the semifinals tonight, Ceccon has cut .43 seconds off his time, with finals still to come on Day 2.

Out of the heats, Ceccon was tied for second with Caeleb Dressel in 22.88. After semifinals, they remain tied for second, but this time in 22.79. They are sitting .03 seconds behind Ben Proud, the top qualifier heading into finals.
