Three Cavaliers Pick Up ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia swimmers Leah Smith and Yannick Kaeser and diver Becca Corbett, along with Florida State diver Dylan Grisell, were named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week.

Smith earned Female Swimmer of the Week honors after leading top-ranked Virginia to a first-place finish at the Georgia Fall Invitational. The junior posted three individual wins and recorded top national times in the prelims of the 500 free (4:30.85) and the 1,650 free finals (15:39.56). Smith’s times in the 500 and 1,650 free were NCAA A-cut marks, while her time of 1:43.97 in the 200 free was an NCAA B cut. She also led off the second-place 800 free relay that finished with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 7:04.87. Smith was also named the Team Unify/CollegeSwimming.com National Swimmer of the Week.

Kaeser was named Male Swimmer of the Week after posting two NCAA B-cut times at the Georgia Fall Invitational. The senior finished third in the 100 breast with a time of 52.72 before placing second in the 200 breast with a time of 1:53.54. Kaeser’s 200 breast time was also a school record and is the seventh-fastest time nationally.

Grisell earned Male Diver of the Week honors after posting NCAA zone qualifying scores in all three events. The junior finished first in the platform event with a score of 386.90 and fifth in the 1-meter event with a score of 319.35 in the prelims and 279.40 in the finals. Grisell rounded out the competition with his third top 10 finish, placing eighth in the 3-meter event with a prelims score of 349.65 and a finals score of 272.65.

Corbett was named Female Diver of the Week after helping Virginia to a top finish at the Georgia Fall Invitational. The senior posted two first-place finishes, collecting scores of 266.55 in the 1-meter event and 337.35 in the 3-meter event. Corbett rounded out the meet with a third-place finish in the platform event, finishing with a score of 239.05. All three of her scores were NCAA zone-qualifying.
