Three-Time In-State Runner Up John Colin Commits to Iowa

The Dubuque Area Swimmin’ Hurricanes and Dubuque Senior High School’s John Colin has verbally committed to the University of Iowa for the upcoming season.

Last season, Colin took second place in the 100 back in 50.48 and fifth in the 100 free in 46.67 at 2015 Iowa High School State Swimming Championships. In his sophomore year, he doubled up on second places, becoming the runner up in both events. Both his 100 back and 100 free times hit the Winter Junior Nationals standard. Here are his fastest times in SCY:

  • 50 FR: 21.10
  • 100 FR: 45.67
  • 200 FR: 1:42.95
  • 50 BK: 23.37
  • 100 BK: 50.48
  • 100 FL: 51.61
  • 200 IM: 1:55.85

Last season, coach Marc Long led the Hawkeyes to an eighth place finish when the team hosted the 2015 Big Ten Championships. With last year’s times, Colin isn’t quite in the running to make Big Ten finals in any events, but many freshman experience huge drops in their first year due to increased training at the college level.

Colin will join Nevada flyer Sam Sauerbrei and Arizona distance swimmer Drew Eisen in the Hawkeye class of 2020.
