Day 2 Recap
After breaking the Western Australian Record in the 100m freestyle yesterday, Brianna Throssell unleashed a 58.25 100m butterfly to snag another event title. Throssell’s splits of 27.42/30.83 led her to rack up Western Australian Record in this event as well, as she beat the field by almost 4 seconds.
Western Sprint’s Nicholas Brown was the winner on the men’s side of the 100m butterfly, clocking a time of 54.44 to double up on his 200m butterfly win from night 1. Of note, UWA West Coast’s Damian Fyfe entered the meet with a seed of 54.64, but opted out of this event, not swimming in prelims. Instead, Fyfe chose to focus on the men’s 400m freestyle, where he earned the ‘open’ gold in a time of 4:02.36.
16-year-old Tamsin Cook scored a WA Resident record in the women’s 400m freestyle, earning the gold in the ‘open’ event in a time of 4:11.73. Splitting consistently at 29.51/32.19/31.53/32.15/31.51/32.19/31.55/31.10, Cook threw down a personal best in the event.
Relay action included UWA West Coast’s foursome of Tamsin Cook (58.59), Sophie Yaksich (58.97), Sian Munks (59.41) and Hadley Lindsay (57.75) combining for a winning time of 3:54.72 in the women’s 400m freestyle relay. The men’s side of the same event saw Sydney University win the race, as Erik Van Dooren (51.99), Te Haumi Maxell (50.91), Tom Meggitt (51.70) and Ben Lindsay (51.76) earned the winning mark of 3:26.36.
Competition wraps up at HBF Stadium tomorrow, December 21st.
Sorry but your assertion of a 400FS PB by Tamsin Cook is well off the mark. She swam a 4.06.17 to win this event at 2015 World Juniors in Singapore.
