Tigers Look To Remain Unbeaten At POD Meet

TOWSON MEN

After improving to 4-1 this season by defeating Old Dominion last weekend, the Towson University men’s swimming and diving team faces George Mason and College of Charleston in a two-day POD meet hosted by the Patriots beginning on Friday at 4 p.m.

The meet will serve as another measuring stick for the Tigers, who have seen improved performances every week and could win six dual meets in a season for the first time since 2006-07 with victories this weekend.

“This is another opportunity for our men to grow and develop into a championship team,” Towson Head Coach Pat Mead said. “These two teams match up very well with us so it will be a test of who wants it more. The people who get to the wall first and want it the most will win the meet. We will need a complete team approach if we are going to win.”

Tiger junior and co-captain Matt Lowe won the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,000-ard freestyle against the Monarchs, while the backstroke trio of freshmen Matt BrintonNick Breschi and Tim Schade continued to post impressive results.

Senior diver Alex Cohen continued his historic career by winning the one-and three-meter diving competitions against the Monarchs. The school record holder in both events, Cohen earned Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Diver of the Week honors on Tuesday.

The meet concludes Saturday at 10 a.m.

TOWSON WOMEN

After earning a big 199-101 win over Old Dominion to improve to 5-0 this season, the Towson University women’s swimming and diving team begins a two-day meet against host George Mason, Northeastern and College of Charleston on Friday starting at 4 p.m.

The meet will provide another Colonial Athletic Association test for the Tigers. College of Charleston and Northeastern are both league opponents with Towson.

“We always look forward to this meet, as it tends to bring out the best in us,” Towson Head Coach Mead said. “I expect some great diving and swimming this weekend. All three teams are very strong and from top-to-bottom and we will need to bring our best effort.”

Junior Victoria Oslund starred against the Monarchs last weekend, picking up a win in the 200-yard butterfly by over five seconds and the winning the 200-yard individual medley by over two seconds.

Also earning wins for the Tigers were seniors Kaitlin Burke and Melanie Rowland and sophomore Jenna Van Camp.

On the diving boards, junior Lyndsey Dickson turned an outstanding effort on the one- and three-meter boards and was named the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Diver of the Week on Tuesday. She scored 297.83 points in the three-meter dive to place second.

The meet concludes Saturday at 10 a.m.
