Tim Squires Breaks Pool Record to Kick Off WVU Season at Intrasquad Meet

Gold squeaked by with an 11-point victory over Blue to open the Mountaineers’ 2014-2015 season at the WVU Natatorium.

The swim of the meet went to Gold Team Senior Tim Squires for his record-breaking performance as part of the mixed 300 Free Relay. The reigning Big 12 Champ in the 50 and 100 Free’s relay leg of 44.92 set the WVU pool record, previously held by Pitt’s Jake Lucas at 45.12.

Before his record-setting 100, Squires also grabbed a win in the 50 Free with a 20.38, just .30 seconds away from the WVU pool record in that event.

Mountaineer Freshman Pierce Bradshaw started off his collegiate career with two wins: One in the 1000 Free (9:48.00), and one in the 300 Free. Yet another Freshman, Colorado native Chris McMahon, started off his first meet of his career with a win in the 200 Free (1:46.71).

On the women’s side, sophomore and Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team member Jaimee Gilmore took the sprint events, touching first in the 50 and 100 Free.

Senior Mountaineer diver Haily VandePoel swept the platform events with firsts in the 1-meter and 3-meter.
