It’s the holidays, which marks halfway through the NCAA season. This also marks 4 months that Head Coach Todd DeSorbo and his staff have led the UVA cavaliers, and SwimSwam was able to check in with them to see how things were going in Charlottesville.
Both DeSorbo and Associate Head Coach Tyler Fenwick spoke about how well the team has come together. Keeping emphasis’ on team camaraderie and expecting the unexpected, it seems the transition is going well. Senior Caitlin Cooper and freshman Emma Seiberlich agreed with the coaches’ assessment; early in the season, the team has a new energy and motivation about it.
Earlier this month, Virginia competed at the Georgia Invite, where their women placed 4th and men placed 5th. Look for the cavaliers to have duals in January with conference opponents Virginia Tech, UNC, and DeSorbo’s old stomping grounds, NC State, before gearing up for ACC’s.

THE place to go for an unparalleled education with professors that write their own books, excellent swimming, and great tradition. If you’re a swimmer that values your education and wants to open doors for the after swimming life – UVA is the place to go. You’ll be surrounded by classmates that value their education too – not joker students that don’t care.
But I thought the whole “Mr. Mean” thing was just a joke, now you’re telling me they’re serious? I can’t keep it straight.
PS – professors everywhere write their own books. It’s so they can charge students huge sums of money and require them to buy it = $$.
Actually, UVA has a policy that prevents any teacher that requires their own textbook from gaining profits from UVA a students purchasing it
I was a student at UVA and a grad student at UF and there was simply no comparison – most of my professors at UVA wrote their own books – even books used as an undergrad – whereas at UF none did. UVA seemed to care more. Just for comparison. And I don’t know about your mister mean thing I’m not even familiar with you. Prob someone else.
Pretty snobby comment! Smart and hard working student swimmers who considered and were accepted at UVA just a year ago might have chosen to go elsewhere to coaching staff at the time. other schools in the top 25 can offer both a stellar education and swim program to those who want to work hard.

As a parent of a 4th year I could not be more grateful for the new coaching staff and their approach to swimming and life. Todd, Tyler and the entire coaching staff are special people and coaches. They make swimming fun. They make training fun. They make winning fun. How? Because they care about their swimmers both in and out of the pool. Because they know what they are doing and everything they do has a purpose. And it’s because of this that their swimmers trust them, believe in themselves and swim for the team. It’s because of this that UVA will be the place where fast swimmers want to go to have fun, swim faster and get a phenomenal… Read more »
I didn’t realize Todd was so short.
