The University of Virginia just won its 4th consecutive women’s swimming & diving team championship title. Head coach Todd DeSorbo spoke with the media afterward to add perspective to this historic accomplishment.
Congrats, Desorbo is the goat
it’s so puzzling how he does so well with the women. admittedly, it’s hard to NOT do well when you have multiple generational SCY talents, but Desorbo has done a phenomenal job developing the B tier of UVA swimmers.
Compare this to the men, who have had six top-nine recruiting classes in a row and now have only three individual NCAA qualifiers, which is embarrassing, to say the least.
Funny how he highlighted the other women who swam their last race, but didn’t say whether it was Alex’s last college race ever 🙂
Nice interview – fun to see a lot of great swims from all the teams. Swimming is a breath of fresh air in today’s college sports environment.
My guess is that Alex hasn’t decided yet.
No reason to, really. Unless she is retiring after this summer (unlikely), it’s probably a decision that hinges on the economics/earnings potential for 2025. No way of even guessing that until after Trials.
It seemed like she was standing right next to him when he said that and gave her a little look – that’s why I mentioned it. Or Gretchen was standing there…
Reading between the lines, Anna Keating and Abby Harter are not coming back. As fifth year seniors, Maddie Donohoe and Ella Nelson are definitely not coming back. That leaves Maxine Parker, Alex Walsh as the undecided fourth year seniors on the UVA roster.
Based on the article posted from SwimSwam, Jasmine Nocentini is coming back.

Pretty sure Maxine is coming back.
Fifth year senior depth is always welcomed.
Genuinely seems like a fantastic coach who cares for all his athletes whatever Todd’s doing he’s doing it right. For all the hate on the men’s team I think if they had the swimmers of the caliber of the womens team it’d be different. Nelson, Douglass, Walsh x 2, Nocentini, Parker, Canny, next year Curzan, Moesch, Leah Hayes just to name some the mens team just doesn’t have that.
BREAKING: if team had good swimmers they would be good.
High school recruiting is key for a head coach however development is more important.
True but they haven’t had any great high school recruiting until next year. Matt King has gone, Jack Aiken a redshirt the transfer they got last year hasn’t even competed and they aren’t getting transfers like Nocentini. It’s like ASU women’s team but if they get Regan Smith you get a key recruit it starts the ball rolling for change. With Heilmann and Maximus let’s hope this is the key change for the recruiting and change for UVA men. What I’m saying is the hate on De Sorbo for the men’s team is not all warranted.
