There are five individual events and one relay scheduled for Saturday’s prelims session, which begins at 7:00 PM local time in Tokyo. Not one swimmer has scratched. The lingering question had been whether Sarah Sjostrom would take on the 100 butterfly, but she confirmed her entry on Thursday.

Why are some of the Swimming heats with only 2 competitors while another heat has 8 competitors?
Hey Angeline, by rule, each heat is supposed to have a minimum of 3 swimmers. There have been a few no-shows (yes, swimmers just no-show their Olympic races, frequently), leaving some heats with 2.
If there is not an even multiple of 8, they will fill up as many heats as they can, and then work out the first few heats so that each has at least 3. How that happens depends on the number (so if there are 11 left, you go 3 and 8. If there are 10 left you go 3 and 7).
Pickrem out of the 400 IM :(:(:(:(
Men’s 100m breaststroke ? Yeah… It’s a showtime for Michael Andrew. He will make a statement in this preliminary : low 57. 🙂
2 questions, did they have a time trials at training camp? And also did they do another music video/paradoy/carpool karaoke for this years Olympics? I really enjoy the last 2
It’s happening!!!!!!
Where do we watch prelims and finals?
They are in Tokyo
4:00am prelims in the US. Outrageous.
lol…you can’t really complain when NBC made the IOC hold finals in the morning Tokyo time so that it’s prime time in the USA
Your Americentrism is showing.
Amazing some of them, us Aussies are so used to getting up all hours of the night to watch sporting events, loving more events in our time zones.
It would work out best for me if prelims don’t start until I get back from morning workout, and finals start just after dinner. Mm’ok? Thanks.
Anyone know if they are streaming preliminary heats
