The University of Toledo has announced the resignation of its women’s swimming & diving coach, Chris Peters. Peters had been at his Toledo Rockets post for the past four seasons, but is citing the desire to spend more time with his family as the reason for his announcement.
UT Athletic Director, Mike O’Brien, says that the process for finding a new Head Coach has already begun, with Assistant Coach Alice McCall handling the day-to-day operations of the women’s swimming program until the position is filled.
While in his Head Coach role, Peters most recently led his Toledo women’s squad to a 7th place finish last weekend at the MAC Championships in Bowling Green. On an academic level, his 2013-14 team earned Scholar All-America status, sporting a team GPA of 3.51, the 9th-highest among women’s swimming programs at the time.
Prior to his relative short time at Toledo, Peters spent 6 years as an Assistant Coach at his alma mater, the University of Missouri, which included a 4-month span as interim Head Coach. He then moved on to Ohio State where Peters served 2 season as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.
“This wasn’t an easy decision, but my wife and I have been talking about this for quite a while now,” said Peters. “Both of us have highly demanding careers and we have two young children at home. Now was the time for us to make that more of a priority. We made the decision that one of us needed to pull back, and we decided that it makes more sense for it to be me.
Reflecting on his own career as a swimmer at the University of Missouri in addition to his coaching roles Peters continued, “I’ve been involved in college swimming as either a student-athlete or coach for over 20 years so it’s going to be a big change for me. I’m going to miss coaching and working with student-athletes. I’d also like to thank Mike O’Brien and (UT senior associate athletic director) Kelly Andrews for the opportunity to be a head coach at UT.”
“We want to thank Chris for his hard work and dedication to the UT women’s swimming & diving program these past four years,” said O’Brien. “We respect his decision to change career directions, and wish the very best for him and his family.”
Toledo seems to do a good job continuing success and finding good coaches. But they also lose them quickly
I hope they take a hard look at the GTAC/St. Francis coach. He was a captain on the Toledo men’s team and an alum. He is doing a great job at the club level and I would hate to see him leave but he is a really good coach!
he is not interested in the job
they have at least one swimmer in the NCAA’s. Is he leaving before coaching her in that meet?
He’s coaching through NCAAs.
