Tommy Hagar, Alexa Reyna Win Twice Each On Final Day of Ithaca Sectionals

The women’s 200 back was led by two of the youngest competitors, with 15-year-olds Quinn White of Crimson Aquatics and Heidi Wu of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics taking the top two spots in the event.

The pair were the only swimmers to finish under 2:00 in the event, with White finishing well under that time in 1:56.89. Wu took silver in 1:59.56.

On the men’s side of the event, Tommy Hagar led the field by over three seconds to claim gold. Hagar took a second and a half off of his lifetime best in the race to win in 1:43.09.

Hagar later picked up a second title on the final day of racing, winning the 200 IM. The race came down to the wire, with Hagar being closely followed by Aaron Baltaytis. Hagar ultimately came out on top, touching in 1:49.03.

Winning her fourth and fifth titles of the meet was Badger Swim Club’s Alexa Reyna in the 1000 free and 200 IM.

During the mid-day distance session, Reyna completed her sweep of the distance races in the 1000 free, touching in a lifetime best 9:46.85. That swim takes just over a second off of her previous best from last February.

Reyna followed that performance by picking up her final title of the meet in the 200 IM. She once again finished just over a second under her previous lifetime best, touching at 2:02.93.

While still only a high school junior, Reyna is committed to Arizona State for the fall of 2024. 

The final distance race of the men’s meet, the 1650 free, went to Will Mulgrew. After finishing second in the 1000 free and first in the 500 free, Mulgrew closed his meet out with huge lifetime best in the 1650. Entering the meet with a best time of 15:34.00, Mulgrew dropped over fifteen seconds to capture the title in 15:18.30.

The quartet of Aaron Baltaytis, Chris Jackson, Doyee Kim, and Will Kaminski combined to win two relays for the Jersey Flyers Aquatic Club. First, the quartet combined to take the top spot in the 200 free relay (1:23.26) before later picking up a gold in the 400 medley relay (3:18.93).

Other Event Winners

  •  After winning the 50 free on day three of the meet, Annam Olasewere picked up a second title in the 100 free. the 15-year-old posted a lifetime best of 49.50 to take gold. She now ranks in the top-10 in the event for the 15-16 age group this season. Olasewere also led of Chelseas Piers winning 200 free relay (1:33.18).
  • Dovanan Jeng finished four tenths off of his lifetime best in the 100 free to win in 44.75.
  • Metro Area Life Time Swimming came away with gold in the women’s 400 medley relay with the team of Emily Wang, Kim Tran, Thi Tran, and Sidney Arcella touched in 3:44.94.
