Eric Tong of the Richmond Rapids became the first athlete to set a Canadian age group record at the Canadian Age Group Championships in Laval.
Tong took the 13 and under 50 freetyle in a time of 25.53 beating his own Canadian record of 25.63 which he set in July in Victoria.
Tong was not the only athlete from Richmond to win a 50 freestyle event as Tengbo Yu won the 14 year old age group.
James Dergousoff of the Chena Swim Club has had a good year, representing Canada for the first time on the international stage at the Pan American Games in Toronto. At his first major international competition Dergousoff placed 11th in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
On Friday evening in Laval Dergousoff won the men’s 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:02.41 taking the event by over a second and a half.
Faith Knelson of Ladysmith-Chemainus was a multiple winner on Friday evening. Knelson won the women’s 13 year old 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:11.47 and the 50 freestyle in a time of 27.39.
At the end of the second day of competition the Keyano Swim sits atop of the leader board with 910.5 points followed closely by the Pointe Claire Swim Club who has earned 904 points.
