Time just like age us just a number (if you can back it up though).

Big fan of the top row of Men’s Session 4.

Chad Dressel and Kolesnikov against the virgin Shields.

what does ENS pick for the skins if they win the medley relay?

Maybe Fly and hope Chad can our touch Dressel at the end and maybe Flo can get into the semis and score big points. Definitely not free. as that’s guaranteed Dressel. Backstroke maybe but there’s a lot of firepower on every team. Breast looks like a Peaty win as well.

Fly you’d also have to consider Tom Shields, who has been faster than Le Clos in the 50, 100 and 200.

I think the goal would be to get 2 into the semis and I think fly would be the best bet at the end of the day and hope for the best that Chad or Flo can out touch Shields

For breast – title would virtually guaranteed go to Peaty (rounding out the top 4 for the last spot are Shymanovich, Prigoda, Dressel, and Franca Silva, maybe Fink if he’s truly back). Shymanovich is the most likely to get through, but who knows what Dressels gonna do on a full taper. Dude was 26.20 on the third 50 against Sacki

Fly – Dressel virtually guaranteed to win but the other contenders for the semis is even narrower. I think it’d… Read more »

It also depends on who they want to score less points. If they want to weaken Cali they’ll go backstroke, if they want to weaken London then free or fly.
If you disregard my previous point and aim for the win I believe they will go with back(if the Russians taper). Rylov is the best 200 backstroker in the world and has been 22.5, Kolesnikov is the WR holder in long course and second fastest ever in 100 SCM. Guido won’t be any faster but I’m keen to see what Murphy does, he was very sluggish in the 100 back in semis.

Assuming you mean men’s? I think ENS pick breast – assuming they’re targeting beating Cali at that point.

Probably not favourite to win in breast but also highly likely Cali get one swimmer knocked out in the first round and despite Dressel I still think ENS have a probable finalist.

Think Free is the only other option – back is a complete lottery and with Dressel and Shields I think Fly is off the table.

If you mean women’s then I’d assume free

Could also depend on standings at end of day 1? If it looks like ENS and Cali are on top, with London not so much in the running, then breast makes some sense: I think Shymanovichwould still expect to make the final, and losing to Peaty not so bad in that case.

Fly and Free they’d be sure to beat London, and in the case of Free you’d expect them to make the final, but Dressel would win big in free, and I think Shields makes Fly risky (no guarantee to even make the final).

Backstroke is probably the most open: Kolesnikov hasn’t really swum the 50 back but has been in great form otherwise after a poor first meet,… Read more »

Only 2 events were there is a chance that ALL Top 5 swimmers will race, while all events have the potential to have at least 1 of the Top 5 swimmers.

A lot of fast people that will not be at the finals meet, shows that a lot of teams have a lot of fast swimmers, but probably not the depth.

Can you do one with just the teams going into the Finals?

Off topic but I was blown away to find out that Ryan Murphy competed at short course worlds in 2012, and took bronze in the 200 back with a 1:48.8 at 17 years old! Never realized he’d been on the international stage prior to his crazy prelims mixed medley leadoff at 2015 worlds

In long course he was 1.57.39 at 16 at the 2012 Olympic Trials and 1.55 in 2013 for 200m backstroke. He could probably been a contender for Finals at the 2012 Olympics if he had represented almost any other country then the US (took 1.57.33 to make that final).

Japan was the only other country that got two guys into the 2012 Olympic final. Of course there’s Irie, but a lad called Watanabe went 1:56.8 at the Japense trials and in the 2012 Olympic semis.

In the semis, Hungary had two swimmers go 1:57 mid.
