16-year old high school sophomore Will Modglin, who finished 2nd at the Indiana High School Boys’ State Championship meet last season as a freshman, swam 4 new lifetime bests at a meet in Fishers, Indiana last week.

Modglin, who trains with the Zionsville Swim Club, will likely be a top 20 recruit when Jared Anderson releases his first ranking for the class of 2023 next year. That ranking will come mainly on the strength of his backstroke races, where he has lifetime bests of 47.91 and 1:46.50, respectively.

This weekend, though, he took a big bite out of some of his secondary best times, which improves his overall profile.

That includes a whopping 7-second improvement in his best time in the 200 fly.

Modglin’s Results:

  • 100 fly – 50.35 (previous PB: 52.64)
  • 200 free – 1:43.73 (previous PB: 1:46.14)
  • 100 back – 50.37 (PB: 47.91)
  • 200 breast – 2:09.82 (previous PB: 2:14.43)
  • 200 fly – 1:54.39 (previous PB: 2:01.52)
  • 100 free – 46.49 (PB: 45.56)
  • 200 back – 1:50.45 (PB: 1:46.50)
  • 500 free – 5:03.46 (previous PB: 4:56.29)

He won all of those races aside from the 500 free, where 16-year old Evan Lake swam 4:46.98. That was a new best time for Lake by almost 4 seconds.

Will’s older brother Coleman Modglin is beginning his freshman year at Purdue this fall as primarily a breaststroker.

Other Meet Highlights:

  • The top 5 finishers in the girls’ 400 IM all went lifetime bests, led by a 4:31.89 from Zionsville’s Elyse Heiser. Her previous best time was 4:37.62. She’s committed to attend Indiana next fall, though primarily as a mid-distance freestyler and a backstroker.
  • Audrey Crawford, a 14-year old from the host Southeastern Swim Club dropped half-a-second in the 200 yard IM to touch in 2:09.58. That led the way in the 14 & under session. In total, she won 6 races in her age group, including another best time in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.75).
  • 13-year old Jihoon Jung had a wild meet that saw him drop an average of 16.8 seconds across his 6 events. Among those 6 events, he recorded 4 age group wins, including via a 36-second drop in the 400 IM to touch in 4:31.33. Several now rank him in the top 10 nationally this season among 13-year olds.

40.3 in the 100 back. Not too shabby.
