Top Recruit in Class of 2015 Andrew Seliskar Makes College Decision

The #1-ranked recruit in the high school class of 2015 has made his college decision. Andrew Seliskar from the Nation’s Capital Swim Club (NCAP) has verbally committed to the Cal Golden Bears.

Seliskar is another recruit in the class of 2015 who can’t be defined by a specialty because he’s so good in so many different places. In yards, his bests are:

  • 50 free – 20.06
  • 100 free – 44.38
  • 200 free – 1:35.17
  • 500 free – 4:18.97
  • 100 back – 46.89
  • 200 back – 1:42.23
  • 100 breast – 53.24
  • 200 breast – 1:52.21
  • 100 fly – 46.50
  • 200 fly – 1:42.55
  • 200 IM – 1:43.22
  • 400 IM – 3:41.19

Even for the defending NCAA Champions Cal, Seliskar will have a significant, noteworthy impact on Cal immediately as a freshman (much as Ryan Murphy did last season).

His times are already fast enough to be an A-finalist at NCAA’s in the 200 breaststroke, 200 fly and 400 IM. He could very well swim the breaststroke leg on Cal’s medley relay as a freshman (though they’ve brought in many good breaststrokers this fall) and could also have an impact on any of the three free relays as well.

With two more seasons of training under his belt, those projections should rise even higher by the time he gets to his first NCAA Championship meet in the spring of 2016.

Seliskar was the 2013 FINA Junior World Champion in the 200 fly, holds four individual National Age Group Records and two relay records as well:

  • 15-16 200 yard breast – 1:54.87
  • 15-16 200 yard IM – 1:44.03
  • 17-18 200 yard breaststroke – 1:52.21
  • 15-16 200 meter IM – 1:59.84
  • 15-18 400 yard medley relay
  • 15-16 400 meter medley relay

Seliskar has promise to eventually win NCAA National titles at Cal, but he’s already a USA Swimming National Champion. He won the 400 yard IM at the 2013 AT&T Winter National Championships and placed 2nd in the 200 IM and the 200 fly as well.

His older brother Stephen Seliskar is a junior swimmer at Purdue.

Cam, that’s an error – chalk that one up to a poorly-run high school state championship meet.

His brother swims for Purdue. Was Purdue in the equation at all? Other than an almost assured NCAA team title at Cal, why not? He could win NCAA individual titles just as well at Purdue, right?

Andrew, congratulations to you and your family for your opportunity to represent the defending NCAA champions and matriculate at one of the finest schools in the world. I would have selfishly preferred you attend Stanford but at least I will get to see you swim a couple of times a year when our two teams meet in one of the best swimming rivalries in college swimming. Our Cards have a fine young IMer in Max Williamson and I look forward to seeing your races.

I have lived in Maryland, Wash. D.C., New York and Connecticut and I tell you that none quite matches up with Northern California for it’s combination of weather, cultural diversity and economic vibrancy. You should… Read more »

After a little sleuthing I find that collegeswimming.com has the scoop. Congrats to Michael and Dave Durden (and the Cal Bears).

A possible factor that he did not pick Georgia: is he an engineering student? No engineering school at UGA.

School rankings can be twisted, but according to U.S. News rankings for engineering programs…

Berkeley: #3
Georgia: Tied for #129

Let’s not compare a perfectly-crisp apple with an out-of-season unripe orange.

Sincere congrats to Andrew, his family, and coaches. It’s relatively rare to have two kids swim at two major colleges. Congrats also to Dave and Yuri.

Always cracks me up when trolls (GoMyDawgs/GoUSA, NerdNation/SwimNerd) use different monikers but don’t change their loopy vendettas.. Like there are multiple trolls spewing the exact same bile?!? The opposite of hate is indifference.
