Top Recruits Kamal Muhammad, Nate Germonprez Go Best Times to Open Yards Season

Kamal Muhammad and Nate Germonprez, a pair of top-10-caliber recruits in the next two high school classes, kicked off their short course seasons last weekend with big swims at small meets.

Kamal Muhammad – Spartans Aquatic Club Pentathlon

Muhammad was original scheduled to finish high school and begin college in 2021, but was reclassified to the class of 2022. He wasn’t included in our rankings because of the reclassification, but if he were, he’d probably be in the top 10.

The status of the Virginia commit was cemented even further this weekend with new personal bests in both the 100 back and 100 breast, as well as the offbeat 100 IM.

While he didn’t finish the full pentathlon, he did enough to show off a new layer of versatility.

Kamal Muhammad Results:

  • 100 back – 47.92 (PB – 48.60)
  • 100 breast – 55.56 (PB – 55.65)
  • 100 IM – 51.42 (PB –

Nate Germonprez – ACE River Races

Germonprez is a rising high school junior in Omaha, Nebraska, and the #3 recruit in the high school class of 2023. He has not yet announced a college commitment yet, though he did take a recruiting trip to Indiana last week.

The Inspire Swim Team’er competed over the weekend at the Ace River Races in his native Omaha, where he won all 5 individual events that he entered. That included a new personal best in the 50 free of 20.39.

His 50 free best coming into the meet was a 20.83 from last December at the 18 & under winter championships. Best known for his abilities in the 200 IM (where he’s been 1:45) and 200 free (where he’s been 1:36), that kind of drop-dead speed is a level-up for him as he’s looking at colleges. That moves him into “every relay” potential for a future college team – though he likely has his pick of programs anyway.

He also went near a personal best in the 100 fly with a 47.90, just off his best time of 47.50 from last November.

Germonprez results:

  • 50 free – 20.39 (PB – 20.83)
  • 100 free – 45.06 (best: 44.73)
  • 200 free – 1:39.59 (best: 1:36.16)
  • 100 fly – 47.90 (best: 47.50)
  • 200 IM – 1:47.75 (best: 2:02.50)
