Toronto Swim Club’s Penny Oleksiak has been on fire this week at the Canadian Age Group Championships in Winnpeg, MB., and with her success came a new Canadian age-group record in the 50m freestyle.
The 14-year-old won tonight’s 14-year-olds 50m freestyle final with a time of 26.16. That time bettered the previous age-group mark held by Chantal VanLandeghem of 26.30 set back in 2009. She had to fight off a tough field to gain that record tonight as Leah Meklensek and Mary-Sophie Harvey were also in sight of it posting times within two tenths of VanLandeghem’s record.
Yesterday, Oleksiak was part of the 14-year-old girls winning 4x200m freestyle relay team as TSC broke the previous age-group record with a time of 8:38.53. The previous record was held by Etobicoke at 8:42.56 from 2013.

Oleksiak also won the women’s 200m fly final tonight in a time of 2:16.29. Those two gold medals added to an already impressive tally as she’s taken home bronze in the 100m fly, silver in the 200m back, gold in the 100m freestyle, silver in the 400m IM, and a gold in the record setting 4x100m freestyle relay from last night.
