For the first time since 2019, the CIF San Diego Section Championships ran a few days ago, as Torrey Pines won the boys and girls meets in Division I. This meet was initially canceled then shortly after reinstated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

GIRLS TEAM SCORES

  1. Torrey Pines – 213
  2. San Marcos – 152
  3. Del Notre – 127
  4. Granite Hills – 108
  5. Rancho Bernardo – 85

Mia Kragh led the Torrey Pines girls to victory, getting the ball rolling with a major 23.65 fly leg on the 200 medley relay to help them to the win (1:46.53).

Kragh, a Cal commit for next season, snapped up two individual wins on the day. She first popped a 22.99 to take the 50 free, then returned shortly after for a big 52.22 in the 100 fly. In the fly, that’s her second-best performance ever, coming just off of her lifetime best 52.01 from March 2020.

Christy Douglas was the other individual champion for Torrey Pines, as she claimed the 100 free with a 52.06. The school was also able to claim the 200 free relay, going 1:37.78, though they were DQ’d in the 400 free relay prelims.

Eastlake’s Emily Lundgren put up a huge performance in the 100 breast, breaking 1:01 for the first time to win in 1:00.96. Her 1:01.24 in prelims was her first time under 1:02, and that time now makes her one of the top breaststroke recruits in the high school class of 2022. Lundgren was also victorious in the 200 IM (2:02.74).

Helix Charter’s Maya Garcia-Hale took the 500 free (5:00.17), while Emmy Luu of Del Notre took the 200 free (1;52.89) and San Pasqual’s Tiffany Shields topped the field in the 100 back (56.89).

BOYS TEAM SCORES

  1. Torrey Pines – 240
  2. San Marcos – 177
  3. Canyon Crest – 138
  4. Carlsbad – 121
  5. Fallbrook – 95

Torrey Pines overcame an early DQ, as their medley relay was called and San Marcos easily won in 1:34.41, winning by over two seconds. San Marcos got a big 25.82 breaststroke leg from Aidan Simpson there.

Torrey Pines was able to come back to claim both free relays, going 1:28.34 in the 200 free relay and 3:11.05 in the 400 free relay. Individually, Andrew Li snagged the 100 fly (50.59), while Logan Noguchi touched first in the 100 back (50.08).

San Marcos collected four individual wins thanks to double winners Simpson and Adam Ladman. Simpson thundered to the 200 IM win, going 1:48.88 to win by almost three seconds, while he turned in the top time in the 100 breast (55.81), this time by over a second. Ladman, meanwhile, broke 1:40 for the first time to win the 200 free (1:38.82) and returned to conquer the 100 free (45.92).

Eastlake’s Christian Johnson picked up the 50 free (20.93), while the other winner on the day was Dylan Mes of Carlsbad with a 4:33.07 in the 500 free.

Unfortunately these kids will not get to compete at State unless CIF reverses the terrible decision made yesterday to cancel the state meet. See https://cifss.org/news/cif-state-update-regarding-season-2-championships/
Please register your displeasure with State CIF directors listed here: https://cifstate.org/about/cif_staff/index
