Torrey Pine’s Cameron Collins Makes Verbal Commitment To UC Santa Barbara 2020

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Cameron “Cami” Collins, a junior at Torrey Pines High School at Pacific Athletic Club in San Diego, California, has made her verbal commitment to swim for the University of California – Santa Barbara in 2020. Collins excels at the 200-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle, having career fastest times in both that would land her in ‘A’ finals in both events at the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship meet.

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at UC Santa Barbara.  It is an honor to be part of such an amazing team of swimmers and outstanding coaches and to have the opportunity to take part in the excellent academic programs the university has to offer. I am extremely grateful to my family, coaches, and teammates who have helped me along the way. GO GAUCHOS!!”

At the 2019 Speedo Champions Series meet in Carlsbad Collins took 9th place in the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.14), 7th place in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:06.68), and 9th place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.99). In May at the 2019 California CIF State Championships, she took 18th place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.19) and 11th place in the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.17).

Best Times in Yards:

  • 100 fly – 57.22
  • 200 fly – 2:01.99
  • 200 free – 1:51.35
  • 500 free – 4:52.24

As a junior, Collins would have finished 3rd place at the MPSF Championship meet in the 500-yard freestyle, with only Hawai’i distance phenom Phoebe Hines graduating from the top 3. UCSB went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard butterfly at the conference meet and two of the swimmers, Heaven Quintana and Maddie Johnson, will have graduated when Collins arrives on campus. She is the first commitment for the class of 2024 for the Gauchos.
