Torri Huske put on a dominant performance in the women’s 100 butterfly final, punching her ticket to the Olympic Games next month in American Record fashion.
The 18-year-old blasted out to an early lead on the opening 50, turning in 25.65 to sit almost three-tenths clear of Claire Curzan (25.93).
Huske, a member of Arlington Aquatics, then pulled away from the field even further coming home, splitting 30.01 for a final time of 55.66, .12 under her American and U.S. Open Record of 55.78 set last night. It’s also a U.S. 17-18 National Age Group Record.
Huske remains the third-fastest performer in history, trailing only world record holder Sarah Sjostrom (55.48) and China’s Zhang Yufei (55.62).

In a tight battle for second, Curzan had to fend off a strong push from Kate Douglass and Kelsi Dahlia, but got the job done at the age of 16, touching in 56.43 to earn what will likely be an Olympic berth.
Curzan’s runner-up finish gives TAC Titans coach Bruce Marchionda three straight Olympians in this event.
Very exciting to see the two teenagers get it done last night!
Torri is on a mission. She is going to tear it up at training camp and then wait for the Olympics. OMG, this is going to be incredible. My guess for the O’s? LOW 55!
We have TWO Torri haters. Sad.
We watched Torri swim at VHSL State Champs several years ago, and watched her break the GMU pool record and meet record as a freshman. I remember thinking back then that we would see her in the Olympics one day. She’s an amazing swimmer and will represent the USA well! Congrats to Torri!
I would think it helped her first 50 even more!
Given that she went out half a second under WR pace, a WR that is courtesy of someone who holds the 50 fly WR as well.
What an adorable smile she has 😍
It was awesome to lead off with that race tonight and have the ideal result. It may sound cruel but one of my top priorities of this meet was Kelsi Dahlia not to make the team in that event. It’s so vital to establish youngsters with elite talent and upside. Dahlia was never going to find another half second. It’s been obvious for months that while Curzan has the All American looks and is a better interview, Huske is the more explosive swimmer. But I was immensely impressed that Curzan held off Douglass and Dahlia late. She didn’t appear capable of that staying power in the prior two rounds.
One of your top priorities was to have Dahlia not make the team? What is wrong with you? And how did you plan on making the ‘priority’ happen? Poisoning her room service? Space lasers? What? And dear God, I hope the comment about how Curzan has All American looks compared to Huske is more innocent than it sounds.
“All American looks”? Did you teleport from 1964? News flash. There’s no ONE WAY to look American. Torri Huske looks just as American as Claire Curzan. You’re telling on yourself here.
☝🏾 🤡
This is literally racism…congrats
While you royally screwed up with how you presented your argument, the fundamental points — that Dahlia was never going to be a sub-56 flyer, that Huske is explosive like we’ve never seen in a U.S. women’s butterflyer and has unreal potential, and that Curzan surprised by looking so much better in the final than in the earlier rounds are spot on.
Thank you. You cleared that up.
Almost always agree with your takes, Ol’ Longhorn. 👍
All American, huh?
Yet, Torri Huske will be enrolled in Stanford this fall.
Torri Huske posted the 5th fastest and 11th fastest all-time performances in the women’s 100 meter butterfly not Claire Curzan.
You are worse than Rowdy playing favorites.
I’m going to make the presumption you’re a grown man so here’s a piece of advise. Don’t comment on teenagers appearances it makes you seem like a pedophile and in this case incredibly sexist too. Young women in this sport have enough to deal with without creepy men making judgments on their physical appearances. Also Dahlia is a class act. Rooting against her is a little cruel. I’m not sure if this was a troll comment or not, but WOW it was in horrible taste.
Ew David.
