Torri Huske on Training with Sox, Chutes, & Racks Before Curzan LCM Showdown

In the SwimSwam Podcast dive deeper into the sport you love with insider conversations about swimming. Hosted by Coleman Hodges and Gold Medal Mel Stewart, SwimSwam welcomes both the biggest names in swimming that you already know, and rising stars that you need to get to know, as we break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.

We sat down with Torri Huske who went a slue of best time at the TAC Titans LCM Premiere meet this past weekend. Huske Battled Claire Curzan head-to-head in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 fly, where she took wins in the 50 (24.44, new 17-18 NAG) and 100 free (53.40). She also went a huge PB in the 100 fly (56.69, new 17-18 NAG) and 200 fly (2:09.97). Huske discussed that just a couple weeks before this meet, she had started using drag sox, parachutes, and weight racks in her training, which she said she enjoyed but did make her a bit sore heading into the meet.

Being rested/shaved doesn’t mean as much nowadays that people wear fast suits at every meet. Wearing a fast suit seems to have a much larger effect on times than if you’re rested/shaved.

Gosh, Huske had a terrible touch in the 100 fly, could’ve easily gone 56.4

Wow! So she just started using Sox, power towers, etc right before her last meet? Can’t imagine her not making major steps forward the next few years.

She wasn’t tapered accord to the interview wow..and still goes 53.4! I don’t care what people think now but I excpect the American women be faster than the Aussie when they Both have their Olympic trials. I think to be in the top 6 you have to go 53.2 or faster and top 4 will be under 53 at American trials

There won’t be 4 under 53. I’m guessing Simone and Torri 1-2, or Walsh will be close to 52. Weitzeil also if she’s “on”

Nobody is ever tapered, they aren’t even ever rested, they always had a really hard workout or lift just before they left. While this may be true, some of the time. Trials are always relatively slow compared to entry times. It’s a grinder. Expect a lot of red on meet mobile. It’s just the way it is.

What? Why wouldn’t you taper for trials?

Real question is why anyone would bother tapering for the Olympics
