Toussaint Takes Back Dutch 50 Back National Record, Now World’s #1

2018 FINA WORLD CUP – SINGAPORE

Multiple Olympic medalist Ranomi Kromowidjojo of Netherlands, known for her sprinting prowess in freestyle and butterfly, surprised even herself back in September when she earned a new National Record in the women’s 50m backstroke. While competing on her home turf at the Eindhoven World Cup, Kromo clocked a personal best of 26.10 to surpass the previous mark held by teammate Kira Toussaint.

For the remaining World Cup stops, Toussaint has danced around the 26-low arena, coming close, but not yet claiming back her NR. The 24-year-old European Championships double medalist got the job done tonight in Singapore, however, touching in 26.04 to reclaim her slot in the Dutch swimming record books.

With her performance tonight, Toussaint now earns the world rankings crown, beating out Aussie Emily Seebohm who held the top time in the world entering tonight’s final with her 26.05 outing from Budapest.
