Toussaint Turns In 27.10 To Lower Hours-Old 50 Back European Record

EINDHOVEN QUALIFICATION MEET (NED)

Just hours after notching a new European Record in the women’s 50m backstroke, 26-year-old Kira Toussaint managed to shave off some more time to lower it even further.

This morning while competing in the heats at the Eindhoven Qualification Meet, the Dutch ace stopped the clock in a time of 27.18. That not only overtook her own Dutch national record, but it checked in as the new European mark, making Toussaint the 5th fastest woman ever.

Come tonight’s final, Toussaint turned in an even quicker 27.10. That sliced .08 off of her morning effort en route to bumping the two-time European Short Course champion up the list of all-time performers to now be positioned as #3.

All-Time Women’s LCM 50 Backstroke Performers

  1. Liu Xian (CHN), 26.98 2018
  2. Zhao Jing (CHN), 27.06, 2009
  3. Fu Yuanhui (CHN), 27.11, 2015
  4. Etient Medeiros (BRA), 27.14 2017
  5. Kira Toussaint (NED), 27.18, 2021

Performance-wise, Toussaint’s time checks-in as the 3rd fastest result in history, sitting only behind the two aforementioned marks by Liu Xian and Zhao Jing.
