TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams picked up a pair of dual meet victories at Burdick Pool to open the season. The women’s team defeated La Salle 189-111. The men’s team beat the Explorers 182-118.

How it Happened

For the Women:

  • Abby O’Leary took third in the 1m dive with a score of 204.30.
  • Shannon Parrau took first in the 3m with a 273.75 in the event. Hayley Beutel took third with a 216.83.
  • Ally FrameTiffany MatulisJanine Murphy and Claire Ryland took first place in the 200-medley relay, clocking in at 1:45.60.
  • Bridget Thomas won the 1000 free, clocking in at 10:26.16.
  • First year Addie Scott took first place in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.93.
  • Frame won the 100 back at 57.10.
  • Tiffany Matulis placed first in the 100 breast, clocking in at 1:06.28. Shay Walker placed third (1:09.40).
  • Samantha Casolo (2:07.09) and Britney Denny (2:09.09) finished first and second in the 200 fly, respectively.
  • Claire Ryland (24.14) and Marissa Kleckner (24.32) went 2-3 in the 50 free.
  • Scott finished second in the 100 free at 53.50. Victoria Dichak took third (53.64).
  • Frame placed first in the 200 back at 2:05.71. Maddie Frick took third (2:09.03).
  • Denny won the 200 breast at 2:25.65. Matulis placed third (2:29.01).
  • Thomas won the 500 free at 5:07.08. Kleckner took third (5:19.01).
  • Casolo won the 100 fly at 57.77. Riley Willett placed third (59.35).
  • Frick won the 200 IM at 2:11.47. Denny took second at 2:12.91.
  • Dichak, Scott, Janine Murphy and Ryland took first in the 400 free relay (3:32.32).

For the Men:

  • Aidan Clark took second on the 1m board, scoring 247.28 in the event.
  • Clark took third on the 3m board with a score of 218.63.
  • Evan BotaBrian BenzingTJ Bearor and Luke Schwar placed first in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:31.49.
  • Stephen McDonald (9:56.41) and Christian Johnson (9:59.13) went 2-3 in the 1000 free.
  • Benzing won the 200 free with a time of 1:39.41. Bearor clocked in at 1:44.82 for third place.
  • Season Colson took first place in the 100 back at 51.38. Bota placed second at 51.57.
  • David Walton (59.12) and Kirill Pankov (59.19) finished 2-3 in the 100 breast.
  • Theo Dietrich placed first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:55.59. Carson Bauer took third (1:57.99).
  • Benjamin Eischied (21.21), Luke Schwar (21.49) and Daniel McLaughlin (21.69) swept the podium in the 50 free.
  • Schwar (47.46) and Bearor (47.66) placed second and third in the 100 free.
  • Sean Colson took first in the 200 back (1:50.26). Reed Sells placed third (1:55.52).
  • Benzing (2:01.31) and Pankov (2:09.94) went 1-2 in the 200 back.
  • Teddy Ament (4:48.44) and Blakely Dean (4:51.48) finished second and third in the 500 free.
  • Eischied (51.09) and Bota (52.02) went 2-3 in the 100 fly.
  • Pankov (1:56.56) and Walton (1:57.42) went 1-2 in the 200 IM.
  • Schwar, Eischied, McDonald and Benzing placed first in the 400 free relay (3:04.89).

On Deck:
The Tigers return to Burdick Pool tomorrow to face George Mason. Diving is set for 10 a.m. and swimming will follow at noon.

TOWSON, Md. – La Salle men’s and women’s swim and dive came up short in the season opener against the Towson Tigers.

The men fell by a score of 182-118 and the women lost 189-111. The Explorers are back in action Saturday as they face the UMBC Retrievers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The diving was a very strong point for the Explorers in the first meet of the 2023-24 season. Freshman Tiffany Brawn was able to secure the top spot in the women’s one meter dive by a score of 234.83.
  • Kelsie Waddington was right behind Brawn in the one meter scoring a 221.55.
  • St. Bonaventure transfer Lucas Dekaney was also able to get first in the men’s one-meter dive diving to a score of 271.35.
  • Dekaney was also able to secure first in the men’s three-meter dive with a 258.90 score.
  • Swimmer George Williamson took first place in the men’s 1000-yard free, picking up where he left off after a strong freshman year. He swam it in 9:47.54.
  • Freshman Andrea Savoca was able to swim to a first-place finish with a 56.71 second time in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke.
  • In the women’s 50-yard freestyle, Toni Rafferty had the time to beat with a first-place finish in 23.91 seconds.
  • Rafferty was not finished as she won the women’s 100-yard freestyle with a 52.82 second time.
  • The men’s 100-yard freestyle was won by captain Zack Miller in 46.69 seconds.
  • Williamson got his second first-place finish of the meet in the 500-yard freestyle event.
  • Felix Jedbratt came onto the scene in a big way last season, and he continued that yesterday. In the men’s 100-yard butterfly he swam to a first-place finish in 49.99 seconds.

UP NEXT:

  • The Explorers are back in action Saturday, October 7th as they face the UMBC Retrievers in Baltimore.
