Towson Women, Davidson Men Claim Victories At Bucknell Invite

Lewisburg, Pa. – For a third consecutive year, the Towson University women’s swimming and diving team kept its first-place lead after day three of the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday. The Tigers won with a score of 1751 inside Kinney Natatorium.

Fordham finished in second with a score of 1436, host Bucknell came in third with 1107.5, Davidson was in fourth with 1086.5, La Salle in fifth with 712 and Rider had 480.

How It Happened

  • Meagan Clark finished in fifth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:08.93, earning 25 points.
  • Meghan Jones was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke earning 32 points with a time of 1:58.95. Elise Devlin (2:02.67) and Reagan Martin (2:04.09) finished in sixth and eighth.
  • Annemarie Schnoor captured a first-place victorious in the 100-yard freestyle (50.47, 32 points). Ava Enriquez came in fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (51.53).
  • Jacki Schoening saw a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.56) earning 28 points to the Tigers overall score. Kasey Gamache finished in fifth (2:18.71).
  • Megan Cowan, the defending Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) champ in the 200-yard butterfly was also in first-place with a finals time of 1:59.33 earning 32 points. Sarah-Margaret Locke came in seventh (2:03.18).
  • Cowan, Maddi Mangum, Locke and Schnoor saw a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay finishing with a time of 3:52.06.
  • Haley Ritter, Enriquez, Kayla Reedy and Parker Schulz finished in fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:26.36).

“The girls had a fantastic all around weekend,” said Shrum. “It was the highest percentage of best times we’ve ever had at a mid-season meet and we got contributions across classes and events.”

“Our senior girls continue to lead the way in effort, enthusiasm, and high end swims. They combined to get or improve on 11 individual swims in our All Time Top 10 list. This will be a great platform to build off of for our last two months of the season.”

  • The Tigers will have a small break during the winter at which time they will train in Florida.
  • On Saturday Jan. 18, Towson will travel to Philadelphia to compete against Drexel.

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Second in the event a year ago, the Davidson men’s swimming and diving team won the Bucknell Invitational Sunday evening at Kinney Natatorium.

The Wildcats completed the three-day, six-team event with 1,261.5 points after entering Sunday with a 1.5-point lead over second-place Rider.

“I’m thrilled for the guys,” said Davidson coach John Young. “They were really solid, and they embraced the chance to leave with a W. At this point in the season, every team approaches meets like this a little differently. But everyone wants to see progress, and everyone is hoping to see success for their athletes. The Cats’ hard work was rewarded with a lot of progress and a lot of success this weekend.”

Diver Daniel Valmassei finished second in the 3-meter competition with 312.65 points, while Owen Corkery placed third in the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.30). And the Wildcats had four swimmers in the A finals of the 200 butterfly, as Tommy Cromie (1:51.78), Brian Hynes (1:52.54), Ian Hentenaar (1:53.31) and Will Tabor (1:53.73) finished 4-5-6-7 to combine for 98 points.

Crossan Cooper added a fourth-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle (16:00.90), while Walter Dauksher (100 free, 45.84), Christopher Chao (200 back, 1:50.08), Mitchell Stanek (200 breast, 2:06.61) and Drew Sheldon (3M diving, 252.45) all provided fifth-place points.

Thomas Broderick took sixth in the 200 back (1:50.22), and Jacob JungPatrick KellyAlex Strasser and Kilian Quinn placed seventh in the 400 free relay (3:07.03).

The Wildcats now have a break in the action, with the next scheduled meet set for Jan. 11 at UNCW.

“Now comes the tough stretch of getting through exams and making it to our training camp,” said Young, “but I feel good that if we can hold on to some of this weekend’s momentum, they’ll stay on a good path.”
