Transfer Erge Gezmis Will Not Redshirt, Will Compete For NC State In 2019-2020

Despite early plans to redshirt a season before starting his eligibility with the NC State Wolfpack, Florida transfer Erge Gezmis will indeed compete for the Wolfpack in 2019-2020.

Gezmis says plans changed when he needed to remain a full-time student to stay in the U.S. and train. Full-time student status also made him eligible to compete in the NCAA. After sitting down with the coaching staff at NC State, Gezmis says all parties decided to use his eligibility this year instead of sitting out the season with an Olympic redshirt.

Gezmis is a Turkish national and an Olympic hopeful for that nation. He was a sophomore this past season for Florida, making the NCAA Championships as an alternate after a few scratches ahead of him. Gezmis scored 43 points at SECs this past year and is a very good butterfly and freestyle addition to the Wolfpack roster.

Lifetime Bests:

  • 100 fly – 46.46
  • 200 fly – 1:41.87
  • 500 free – 4:16.49
  • 200 free – 1:35.77

He joins an NC State class of newcomers that we already ranked #2 nationwide without Gezmis factored in. He joins one of the nation’s stronger butterfly groups, and should help the Wolfpack try to stick in the NCAA’s top tier of teams after finishing 4th last season.
