Trent Richardson Named New Head Coach at Loveland Swim Club (Colorado)

The Loveland Swim Club in Loveland, Colorado has announced the hiring of Trent Richardson as the program’s new head coach and Lara Ruthven as the head age group coach.

Richardson comes to the program from DART Swimming in Davis, California, where he’s worked since 2013. There, he worked as the senior lead coach and also served as the senior chair for Sierra Nevada Swimming LSC. DART is a silver medal club that counts among its recent alumnus USA Swimming Junior National Team member Chenoa Devine and USA Swimming National Team member and National Age Group Record holder Luca Urlando.

“I am thrilled to accept the position of Head Coach at Loveland Swim Club,” said Richardson. “The 53 year history of Loveland Swim Club is one that the community should be proud of. The impact of the team has spanned generations, and I am honored to be the coach who will lead Loveland into the future.

Richardson and Ruthven will take over a club that has existed in Colorado for 53 years. The prior head coach was Jim Nickell, who resigned after 16 years to become a coach with the Mesa Aquatic Club in Mesa, Arizona.

The Loveland Swim Club finished 17th at the 2019 Colorado long course age group championships and 20th at the senior state championship meet. 7 former Loveland swimmers competed at the 2016 US Olympic Trials, including Brooke Hansen who was a four-time NCAA All-American at the University of Texas; and Erin Eddy, who was a 5-time NCAA All-American at the University of Virginia.

Ruthven comes to the club from the Fort Collins Area Swim Team. She was a member of the swim team at the UNiversity of Texas and also a member of the US National Road Cycling Team.
