Turkey’s Viktoria Zeynep Gunes Sets new Turkish Record in 200m Breast

2015 EUROPEAN SHORT COURSE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE WINGATE INSTITUTE IN NETANYA, ISRAEL

(Note for those reading results: Only TWO swimmers per nation may advance to the semi-finals, therefore you will see some swimmers from bigger countries “skipped” in the order of Qs in preliminary results)

Turkey’s Viktoria Zeynep Gunes has set a new national record in the women’s 200m breast stroke at the last session of the 2015 European Short Course Championships. Gunes touched the pads 3rd (2:19.73) in the final of the 200m breast, behind new European Champion Fanny Lecluyse (2:18.49) and Maria Astashkina (2:19.69).

The previous record was set by Gunes this morning, at the preliminary session, when she touched the pads in a time of 2:21.01. After an outstanding morning swim, she took almost 2 seconds off her new personal best and national record. In the preliminaries her 100m split was 1:07.67, and in the final she started the race with an even faster split of 1:06.82, paving the way for her new national record swim. Her second 100m in the morning was a time of 1:13.34 and in the finals, she managed to have an even faster 2nd 100m than her morning swim, coming back in a 100m split of 1:12.91.

Gunes has had a successful meet in Netanya these past few days, finishing the 50m breast, 100m breast and 200m breast all in lifetime best and new Turkish national records.
