Two National Records Broken On The Second Day Of The Belgian Championships

Louis Croenen and Emmanuel Vanluchene both set new national marks on day two of the Belgian Nationals Championships in Antwerp.

Croenen set a new Belgian national record in the men’s 200 butterfly winning the event in a time of 1:56.41, breaking the 2008 record of 1:56.65 held by Mathieu Fonteyn.

Croenen’s time also puts him in the eighth place position in the world rankings.

Vanluchene set a new national record in the men’s 200 IM taking the event in a time of 2:00.88, breaking Ward Bauwens‘ record of 2:01.85 set last year.

This was Vanluchene’s second victory of the competition after he took the men’s 200 freestyle in a thrilling race with both Croenen and Pieter Timmers on day one. Vanluchene won the event in a time of 1:48.41 followed by Timmers who posted a 1:48.82 and Croenen who hit the wall in a time of 1:48.86.

Croenen’s swim has not been the only top ten time put up on the weekend, Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Belarus won the women’s 50 butterfly in a time of 26.27, which places her eighth in the rankings. Herasimenia also won the women’s 50 freestyle in a time of 24.94.

Fanny Lecluyse has taken both the 50 (31.63) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.94) at the meet and will go for the sweep of the women’s breaststroke events on Sunday when she competes in the 200.
