Two Paralympic Records Broken in Paralympic Prelims Day 8

Paralympics Day 8 got off to a good start with two new Paralympic Records. Tiffany Thomas Kane of Australia set a new Paralympic record in the Women’s SB6 100M Breaststroke with a time of 1:35.43, less than a second off of her world record time of 1:34.95. A Paralympic record was also set in the Men’s S11 100M Freestyle when USA’s Bradley Snyder swam a time of 57.16.

The United States will send a total of five athletes to finals in these events. Elizabeth Smith, Sophia Elizabeth Herzog, Reilly Boyt, Bradley Snyder and Letticia Martinez will all be competing.

Men’s S9 100M Butterfly

Paralympic record holder Tamas Sors of Hungary came in first in prelims with a time of 1:00.58. Following him into finals are world record holder Federico Morlacchi of Italy with a time of 1:01.57 and Dimosthenis Michalentzakis of Greece with a time of 1:01.91.

Women’s S9 100M Butterfly

China’s Jailing Xu qualified for the top seed in finals with a time of 1:09.43. Following her closely are Claire Cashmore of Great Britain with a time of 1:09.77 and USA’s Elizabeth Smith with a time of 1:09.95. The world record holder in the S9 50M Butterfly, Emily Beercroft will also be competing in this final.

Men’s SB6 100M Breaststroke

Nelson Crispin Corzo of Colombia qualified for the top seed in finals with a time of 1:22.74. World record holder Ievengii Bogodaiko of Ukraine follows closely with a time of 1:22.88. Germany will be sending two swimmers to finals in this event. Torben Schmidtke and Christoph Burkard will both be competing with prelims times of 1:24.61 and 1:29.90, respectively.

Women’s SB6 100M Breaststroke

World record holder Tiffany Thomas Kane of Australia set a new Paralympic record with a time of 1:35.43. Two of her teammates will also be competing in this final. Tanya Huebner and Kate Wilson also qualified with times of 1:42.66 and 1:49.21 respectively. The US will have two athletes swimming in this final. Sophia Elizabeth Herzog qualified with a time of 1:38.22 and Reilly Boyt qualified with a time of 1:44.35.

Men’s S10 400M Freestyle

Ukraine will have a total of three swimmers competing in the finals of this event. Maksym Krypak qualified for the top seed with a time of 4:05.72. Denys Dubrov also qualified with a time of 4:10.30, and Dmytro Vanzenko qualified with a time of 4:13.34.

Women’s S10 400M Freestyle

Canada’s Aurelie Rivard finished first in finals with a time of 4:40.86. Hungary’s Bianka Pap will follow her into finals with a time of 4:42.81, along with Mexico’s Stefanny Rubi Cristino Zapata with a time of 4:43.98. World record holder Elodie Lorandi of France will also compete in this final, qualifying with a time of 4:45.13.

Women’s SM5 200M IM

Norway’s Sarah Louise Rung qualified for the top seed with a time of 3:19.54. Following her into finals are Israel’s Inbal Pezaro with a time of 3:37.62 and Spain’s Teresa Perales with a time of 3:40.65.

 Men’s S11 100M Freestyle

The USA’s Bradley Snyder set a new Paralympic record with a time of 57.16. Bozun Yang of China and Brazil’s Matheus Souza took the next two seeds in finals with times of 59.74 and 1:00.17, respectively.

Women’s S11 100M Freestyle

Liesette Bruinsma of the Netherlands finished first in prelims with a time of 1:08.97. Following her into finals are Italy’s Cecilia Camellini with a time of 1:09.10 and China’s Guizhi Li with a time of 1:09.22.

Men’s S2 50M Backstroke

China will send three athletes to finals of this event. Benying Liu and Liankang Zou took the top two seeds with times of 52.14 and 54.36, respectively. Their teammate Yang Yang also qualified for finals with a time of 58.63.

 

Finals will continue tonight at 4:30 PM Eastern Time.

400m freestyle S10 : .worldrecord nu ukrainien with 12sec off. This must be the beginning of the end of this classification. A disabled swimmer can never break this record. I ‘m glad this were my last paralympics swimming as a father .
