Two-Time State Sprint Champion Hailey Galbraith Commits to Georgia

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

High school junior Hailey Galbraith from Cummings, Georgia has verbally committed to the University of Georgia. She will arrive in the fall of 2021.

Galbraith was the 2020 Georgia High School 6A-7A (big school) State Champion in the 50 free in February, swimming 23.20 to defend her title from 2019. She dropped more than half-a-second to remain on top. She also finished 2nd in the 100 fly in 55.28.

The Bulldogs now can claim the last 6 Georgia state champions in the biggest classification (now 6A-7A, previously just 6A) among their ranks. Tatum Smith, who won the 4 previous titles before Galbraith, just completed her sophomore season with the Bulldogs.

Many of her best times in yards (including all of the swims listed below) actually came a few weeks before the Georgia state meet at the Ralph Crocker Swim Classic in January.

In long course, Galbraith was a Futures qualifier in the 100 free (59.25) and 100 fly (1:03.73), though she’s generally better in short course than long course at this point in her career, with multiple Winter Juniors cuts in yards.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 23.02
  • 100 free – 50.48
  • 200 free – 1:50.92
  • 100 back – 56.03
  • 100 fly – 54.61

The Georgia women are in rebuilding mode after a few down seasons, but have maintained their historical excellence in the middle-distance races throughout that rebuilding process. They have, however, struggled a little in races where Galbraith is very good – including the 100 fly and 100 back. In the 100 fly, for example, they scored 23 points at the SEC Championships, which was 7th-best among all teams.

Georgia placed 4th at last year’s SEC Championship meet with 986 points – just 1.5 points behind Kentucky for 3rd place.

Galbraith trains with the Spartans Aquatic Club and attends North Forsyth High School.
