U.S. Olympian Tyler McGill was officially inducted into the New York Athletic Club’s Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 22nd. McGill, who now coaches at Auburn University, was a member of the U.S. National Team for several years. He also competed collegiately for Auburn, earning 15 All-American honors throughout his career. He continued to train there as a postgrad after he graduated from the school in 2010.
McGill was one of the top American butterfliers on the international stage from 2009-2012. He earned an Olympic gold medal as the prelims butterflier on Team USA’s 400 medley relay in 2012. He also earned gold medals as a prelims relay swimmer at the 2009 and 2011 World Championships. Individually, his major accomplishments include a bronze medal in the 100 fly at the 2011 World Championships and a silver medal in the 100 fly at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships.
Joining McGill in New York Aquatic Club’s Hall of Fame is former swimmer Gwen Jorgensen. Prior to turning her focus to triathlon, Jorgensen was a collegiate swimmer at the University of Wisconsin. She swam for 2 years at Wisconsin before switching over to track and cross country.
Jorgensen went on to become a U.S. Olympian, competing in the 2012 London Olympic and 2016 Rio Olympics. Last summer in Rio, she won the United States’ first-ever triathlong gold medal.
