TYR Junior National Cup to Run This Week at Liberty University

2018 TYR JUNIOR NATIONAL CUP

  • March 20-24, 2018
  • Lynchburg, VA (Liberty University)
  • Meet Central

Just after some of the top age group swimmers raced last weekend at the NCSA Junior Championships in Florida, more will compete this week at the TYR Junior National Cup.

The meet will span five days, with the first events starting tomorrow. Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA will play host– they just debuted their new natatorium in December, a 50-meter-by-25-yard pool with a capacity of over 1,400 spectators.

Pro athlete Michael Andrew has announced that he’ll be competing this week at the meet. Most recently, Andrew swam at the Columbia Sectionals from March 8-11, where he posted a bunch of lifetime bests, including an 18.91 in the 50 free, a 42.88 in the 100 free, a 51.42 in the 100 breast, a 46.50 in the 100 back, and a 46.12 in the 100 fly.

Plenty of other fast young swimmers will be in attendance this week at Liberty. Among those teams listed on the meet website expected to bring swimmers are the Virginia Gators, AGUA, Aquajets, Ohio State Swim Club, Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics, NCAP, and Ridgefield Aquatic Club.

At this meet last year, several NAG relay records went down courtesy of the group of 15-16’s from Virginia Gators which consisted of Emma MuzzyOlivia BrayCaroline Kulp, and Whitney Hamilton. The quartet took down four of the five 15-16 NAG records in yards, and had standout performances individually. They may no longer all be in the 15-16 age group, but they’ll likely be putting up impressive swims this week if they are in attendance again.
