Lucas Walker of Mountain View, Calif., was added to the U.S. Center for SafeSport disciplinary database on April 6, facing allegations of misconduct.
Walker, registered under USA Swimming, is currently under the following temporary restrictions: No contact directive(s), coaching/training restriction(s), and communication limitation(s).
Walker graduated from Mountain View High School in 2018 and joined the University of Redlands swim team, having recently completed his junior season, according to his team bio.
At the 2022 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships in February, Walker placed third in the men’s 200 IM and also made the championship final in the 200 breast and 400 IM.
Walker has also spent time coaching and lifeguarding at the Fremont Hills Country Club in Los Altos Hills, Calif.
Update: June 6, 2023 – Walker was removed from the SafeSport database on April 20, 2023. He was not required to serve a suspension period.
Also added to the SafeSport database on April 6 was Mitchell Fountain, who is registered under USA Water Polo.
Fountain, hired to coach the Grandville High School girls water polo team in February 2021, is currently listed under temporary suspension with a no contact directive as he faces allegations of misconduct.
What a euphemism, Safe Sport. Call this list something more appropriate like, Banned Coaches List or Disciplined Coaches list.
Walker swam for Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics (PASA) Fremont Hills Country Club.
They let you work independently as a guard or coach there opening and closing but I don’t see him certified as a coach ever. That’s a red flag right there
This is not Mitch’s first time on the SafeSport list. Had a previous suspension and was fired at the time by Grandville High School in Michigan. Then violated the terms of his suspension and received additional suspension.
Once both sentences were completed he was removed from the SafeSport list and the administration at Grandville High School rehired him in 2022 knowing of additional allegations and outcry from the local water polo community.
The USA Waterpolo Club where he was a head coach was previously Spartan Water Polo and went through an identity change after the initial SafeSport sanction and is now Great Lakes Aquatics.
Weird how he’s still allowed to coach even though there’s clearly an issue with him sniffing around young women. Shame on Matt Latham and everyone involved in that club that has not gotten rid of what is clearly a toxic young man who needs help understanding what is appropriate and what is not. Let’s also remember the HS team that fired him once for misconduct decided to HIRE HIM BACK. No issue at all there right?
