U.S. Paralympics Confirms 3 Major Meet Dates for 2020;

The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) hasn’t yet set a date for a new Tokyo Paralympic Games Trials, but has set dates for several other major meets in 2020.

The 2020 Paralympic Games, much like the 2020 Olympic Games, have been postponed until 2021. The Paralympics will run from August 24th, 2021 through September 5th, 2021, a month after the start of the Olympic Games, utilizing many of the same facilities.

A spokesperson for U.S. Paralympics Swimming told SwimSwam on Wednesday that the organization is waiting for updated qualification information from the IPC and World Para Swimming before setting their plan for a new Trials meet. That includes updated selection procedures and setting dates for a Trials meet.

The Paralympic Trials were originally scheduled for June 25th-28th, 2020 in Minneapolis at the University of Minnesota Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. That event was due to coincide with the cycling and track & field trials that were to be held the same weekend also in Minneapolis.

The USOPC and U.S. Paralympics Swimming have set a date for a few key meets later this year, however. With most of the Para-Swimming World Series cancelled for 2020, these meets will be crucial racing opportunities for Americans.

  • Northeast Para Open – September 18-20
  • California Classic Para Open – October 3-4
  • Fred Lamback Disability Meet (Augusta, Georgia) – October 24-25
