The American team of Daniel Diehl, Quintin McCarty, Kristina Paegle and Carly Novelline combined to go under the FINA-established world junior record in the mixed 4×50 free relay at the Berlin stop of the 2021 FINA World Cup.

The team went 1:31.50, winning the event. Diehl led off in 22.07, McCarty went 21.35, Paegle went 23.78 and Novelline anchored in 24.30. Their record, however, is still pending ratification, according to the FINA website.

Baseline marks for world junior records were initially established in March 2014. The American team of Caeleb Dressel, Ryan Held, Mallory Commerford and Kelsi Dahlia owns the world record in the mixed 4×50 free relay at 1:27.89, from the 2018 World Championships.

Germany took second in the event on Saturday in 1:32.32, followed by Hungary in 1:33.34.

McCarty and Paegle were also part of the world junior record-setting mixed 4×50 medley a day later, which went 1:41.55, besting a record previously held by Alex Walsh, Michael Andrew, Regan Smith and Trey Freeman.
