UC San Diego Wins 12 of 14 Events In Win Over UC Davis

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego women’s swim defeated UC Davis in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon at Canyonview Aquatic Center. The Tritons won 12 of 14 events to win with 161 points to the Aggies 101.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Opening the meet with a win, the 200 medley relay squad of Eva BoehlkeChloe BraunMiranda Renner, and Mackenzie Lee took the early 11 points with a time of 1:41.98. Juli Arzave and Sophia Bell took first and second in the taxing 1650 free. Arzave posted a time of 17:09.35 with Bell coming in at 17:13.01.

In the 200 free, Asia Kozan won with a time of 1:49.84 to snag nine points with Minh-Nha Kawamura adding three of her own by finishing in third. Sophie Francis took fourth in the event to add an additional two points.

Freshmen duo, Boehlke and Iris Bayan took first and second in the 100 back for a combined 13 points. Boehlke finished with a time of 54.82 coming close to the team record and Bayan finished with a time of 57.40. Teagan Monroe took fifth for an additional Triton point with a time of 58.37.

Chloe Braun took a first-place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.16. Sabrina Bennani finished fifth for the Tritons with a time of 1:05.73. In the 200 fly, Alisa Rangel took second with a time of 2:06.05. Gabi Icheva added another two points with a fourth-place finish followed by Sandy Li in fifth.

Renner and Lee took first and third in the 50 free with times of 23.75 and 23.9. Kozan tallied another win in the 100 free, posting a time of 51.41. Bayan snagged her first win on the day in the 200 back with a time of 2:04.02. Braun and Bennani took second and third in the 200 breast for an additional seven points.

In the 500 free, Francis came from behind to steal first with a time of 5:00.75 nearly snapping the pool record. Bell finished second behind her teammate with a time of 5:03.18 and Arzave finished fourth with a time of 5:04.15.

Adding another nine points and tallying her fourth first place finish of the day, Boehlke posted a time of 55.16 in the 100 fly. Renner finished third in the event with a time of 56.95. Bennani took her first win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.48. Kawamura and Icheva took fourth and fifth adding three more points.

Finishing the day, the same way they started it, the Triton squad of Renner, Lee, Josette Odgers, and Kozan won the 200 free relay after a neck-and-neck race with the Aggies. The Tritons managed to get the touch 0.09 seconds before their opponents.

UP NEXT
The Triton women remain at home to host Cal women on Friday, Nov. 3 in a dual meet at 1:00 p.m. before heading north with the men’s team on Saturday, Nov. 4 for a tri-meet at Pepperdine with UC Santa Barbara.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Ellie Heit and Sam Rhodes each earned event wins, but it wasn’t enough as the UC San Deigo women’s swimming team bested UC Davis 161-101 on Saturday afternoon. 

Heit won the 200 fly with a time of 2:04.09, while Rhodes swam a 2:19.15 to place at the top of the 200 Breast. 

Katie McLain had a strong meet, finishing in the top three in four different events. McLain came in second place in the 200 medley relay (23.39 split), 50 free (23.83), 100 free (52.36) and 200 free relay (23.40).

The defeat is the Aggies’ first of the year, and moves them to 0-1 in the MPSF.

UC Davis’ next competition is Nov. 4 at San Jose State.
